A common misconception about David J. Cowhey’s New Jersey dog bite practice is that we seek to handle cases exclusively against larger, more aggressive breeds, such as pit bulls, Rottweilers, or mastiffs. While it is true that these dogs make up a significant portion of the breeds responsible for dog attacks and injuries throughout the state, it is untrue that we do not handle claims involving smaller dogs. Any breed of dog is certainly capable of attacking and injuring someone. A dog bite from a smaller dog breed can cause the same pain as from a larger dog.
In a case Mr. Cowhey has handled, a smaller, “toy breed” dog inflicted an outwardly minor bite injury on a woman which ended up causing internal damage to her hand and ultimately required surgical intervention. Pit bulls and Rottweilers are not the only dogs that bite. Small breeds such as Chihuahuas and dachshunds can cause serious damage as well with their dog bite wounds.
A bite wound from a smaller breed of dog can cause injuries requiring medical attention. Here are a few:
If you’ve been injured by any dog, no matter the size, you may want to explore your legal options to cover your expenses and damages. In most cases, it is the dog’s owner, through their home insurance company, that will be responsible for covering the costs associated with damages inflicted by the dog that bit.
Do not think that just because you were bitten by a small dog that you do not have a case. Call David J. Cowhey, The New Jersey Dog Bite Lawyer, today at (609) 513-0627 or contact us online for a free consultation and evaluation of your claim.
